Easter Eve service started at 8:00pm with the lighting of the Easter fire outside the church ~ it was so windy that the flames nearly took the church with them…
We spent the first part of the service in candlelit darkness, and then had 5 baptisms, one girl ~ the daughter of one of our new church members, and 4 boys ~ all students here at SJU and all from non-Christian families. It was WONDERFUL!
One of the boys had a motorcycle accident a few weeks ago and broke his leg (hence the crutches) and knocked out a lot of teeth, amazingly this experience and the loving care of his friends in the student fellowship helped him decide that he really wanted to be baptised. His parents were also impressed by their son’s friends and their loving support, and agreed to his baptism ~ his mother even came along to the service, amazing…..
After the baptisms came the incense (the tradition here is incense on Christmas Eve and Easter Eve) and Holy Communion ~ wow, who’d ever have thought I would find myself part of a church with incense, wonders will never cease!
A beautiful service ~ Happy Easter everyone!
