Memorial Service for Bishop John C. T. Chien

Yesterday’s Memorial Service at St. John’s Cathedral, Taipei for our much-loved retired Bishop John C. T. Chien was held on what would have been his 73rd birthday ~ such a special occasion…

Chancellor Herbert Ma gave a most fitting tribute, and Bishop David Lai preached about the infectious joy that Bishop Chien was so well-known for.  We were honoured by the presence of representatives from many other churches, plus 3 VIPs who had come especially from overseas ~ Canon Peter Ng representing Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori and the USA Episcopal Church, Bishop Andrew Chan of Western Kowloon representing the Archbishop of Hong Kong, and Dean Matthias Der of St. John’s Cathedral, Hong Kong – who is also related to the Chien family…..

A moving Memorial Service for such a very wonderful person. Bishop Chien will always hold a very special place in our hearts….
