Dancing on the Bridge true Truku-style….YA!

Forget Gangnam and the Harlem Shake, this beats ’em all anytime ~ us Truku-style dancing on the bridge yesterday at 慕谷慕魚 Mukumugi Gorge….. YEAH!

Mukumugi Gorge is the home of the Truku (Taroko) Indigenous people – who became Taiwan’s 12th officially recognized tribe in January 2004…

Mother’s Day weekend and off we went, 80 of us from Good Shepherd Church, Taipei for a wild weekend in Hualien on Taiwan’s east coast… got there by train from Taipei, and stayed at the R. C. Pastoral Centre, not far from Hualien’s port….

Spent Saturday visiting lakes and hills and gardens and… well a few shops… then Sunday after an early worship service, off we went to Mukumugi, 80 of us in 10 minibuses with 10 Truku drivers / guides…

There’s no doubt Mukumugi is one of the hidden treasures of Taiwan – deep blue-green pools of water, marble rocks and spectacular views…

Plus a few traditional Truku things to see, buy and even eat….

This was a combined trip for Good Shepherd Chinese congregation, English congregation, a few friends from Chung-Li Outreach Centre, plus quite a few hangers-on like me…

Our minibus group leader below left (!) ….. and below right is us in true Truku pose!

Before leaving for home, we celebrated Mother’s Day and the 50th anniversary year of Good Shepherd Church with this yummy cake…. it being Mother’s Day weekend meant that many people brought along their mothers from far and wide to join in… and some brought their whole family ~ including many who are not Christians and some who’d never gone near a church before… great!

Of course, the bridge dancing was a great climax to the whole day…

Thanking God for a wonderful weekend with very reasonable weather ~ well it rained every time we went in a shop or restaurant or were driving in the bus, and then the rain stopped nearly every time we had to walk anywhere – or dance!   And of course a bit of mist only added to the wonderful atmosphere ~ a great weekend lol!

And finally here we all are in true Truku Mukumugi pose… YEAH!
